I guess Pilate was not a real politician in the since that he was appointed rather than elected. For sure he was a beurocrat dedicated to avoiding accountability. He hated being pressured into making a decision and tryed to pass it to anyone he could think of. He was successful in avoiding the grater sin, Caiaphas committed that.
